Surf coaching

At the beginning, we will cover basic longboard skills to build a foundation. This will include where to position yourself when laying down, good paddling technique, how to turtle roll/go over the waves, where to place your feet when standing. Then we’ll work on turning, cross stepping and nose riding. We’ll also practice some land drills before heading in the water and review all the sessions from the day. You’ll gain knowledge on how to read waves, where to paddle when a set is coming and what to do when there are big waves. You can expect lots of ocean knowledge and plenty of time for individual questions and improvements.

Yoga

Practice will be based around vinyasa flows to build strength and flexibility. It will relate to surfing, opening up muscles that will help improve surfing skills. Every other morning we will have a 30 minute wake up flow to bring fresh blood to our entire body before heading to the beach. Evenings will start off with power moves and end with relaxing poses held for longer. Lots of twisting to cleanse our bodies internally, balancing poses on hands and feet for surfing, and plenty of stretching. The best part of yoga is that there is a layer for everyone so if something doesn’t feel right in your body, we can adjust to another position that does.

Professional photographers

During the retreat we’ll have two amazing photographers/videographers in the water to capture the beautiful moments in the water. The package includes 5 fully edited photos each day (of your choice and made available to you the next morning), raw surf video files and copies of all your RAW photos. Should you wish to upgrade your package to receive a fully edited video at the end of the stay plus 5 fully edited additional pictures per day, you’ll have that option at an additional charge.

Dana

Learnt to surf at a young age and was a competitive surfer during high school in San Diego, California. Moved to O'ahu, Hawai'i, at 18 to pursue her dreams of surfing where she joined local competitions and surfed most of her days. She spent time with some of the best surfers on the island (of all ages) and learnt from them true water skills. Worked on the beach The Waikiki Beach Boys and taught surfing at two different surf schools to later on move to Australia and teach there. She did two competitions while abroad, taking 1st place in one and 3rd place against two-times world champ, Honolua Blomfield, in the other. Later she travelled to Fiji, Mexico, around Hawai'i, Australia and Indonesia. At 20 completed her yoga teacher training and worked as a yoga teacher for 2 years before travelling the world. She's been practicing for 10 years and enjoys sharing this magical gift with others.
