About Xanadu

Xanadu Surf & Yoga is not only two beautiful locations and well-curated surf & yoga programmes, but first and foremost Xanadu is the people who are part of it and create a memorable surf & yoga experience at the highest level. We have been born out of passion for yoga, surfing and good food. We want to share the love and good vibes with our guests. And quite frankly we’ve got a hidden agenda too – we ourselves want to meet like-minded people travelling to this beautiful part of the world.

Xanadu, the name, has been taken from the Kubla Khan poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and refers to a magical place in a hidden land – couldn’t be more appropriate. So don’t wait and come visit this hidden oasis in the south of Lombok.

We’re blessed with a big team made up of passionate people who are here to make your holiday extra special. Below are just a few of them – the rest you’ll meet when you finally visit.

Anton

General Manager

Anton oversees the entire operations at Xanadu Village and Xanadu Retreat. He came to Lombok from the Philippines and now calls the island home. He’s got a great sense of humour and attention to detail. And after hours, he’s the best chef in town.

Jose

Host

A super social Chilean who is all about ensuring your Xanadu Retreat experience is memorable. He initially came to Xanadu as a guest, fell in love with Lombok (and us) and decided to swap his successful law career in politics for island life and daily longboarding, which sounds like a pretty good tradeoff if you ask us.

Duggy

Senior Surf Coach

Duggy has been with Xanadu almost from the beginning. He’s the Senior Surf Coach at Xanadu Village making sure all the surf adventures run smoothly. Patient, knowledgeable and lots of fun to be around. Surfed in Australia, but prefers the warm waters of Lombok.

Dani

Yoga Teacher I Xanadu Retreat

Born in Copenhagen to a Swedish / Danish mother and a Dutch father, Dani is a true world nomad. In charge of Xanadu Retreat yoga programme, she teaches traditional Hatha in the form of Body Opening. Although she works on a physical level, her goal is to trigger your energetic body to release stored/stuck energy and help move it out of the body.

Sam

Surf Manager

A bold decision-maker, Sam’s life took a turn when she landed a job at Xanadu. Never having set foot in Lombok before, she embraced the unknown with open arms. Without hesitation, she bid farewell to her apartment, and embarked on a journey to continue her dream of working in the surf industry. With previous experience in surf tourism in South Africa, the UK, and Sri Lanka, Sam now finds herself against the stunning backdrop of Lombok’s hills and warm waters.

Kayan

Surf Programme Director

Kayan oversees the entire surf programme at Xanadu. Together with the rest of the surf team, he ensures that you receive valuable feedback and guidance that improves your surfing. Kayan comes to us from the Canary Islands and previously worked at multiple surf camps in Sri Lanka. He was on his way to Australia when we met him but we’ve managed to convince him to ditch that plan and join our team.

Gigih

Assistant Manager

Gigih, originally from Lombok, ensures that everything at Xanadu Retreat runs smoothly. He joined our team as a housekeeper during Covid and has worked his way up to the Assistant Manager role first at Xanadu Village to finally take charge of Xanadu Retreat. He’s incredibly attentive and looks after the operations and the guests with a lot of care and passion. An interesting fact about Gigih, he used to work on a cruise ship travelling around the world.

Maya

Assistant Manager

If you’re staying at Xanadu Village, you’ll surely get to know Maya. She started at Xanadu Retreat as a Front Desk officer but her excellent organisational and people’s skills propelled her to take full charge of Xanadu Village operations right after her maternity leave. She’ll be your go-to-person if you book your stay at Xanadu Village. We couldn’t be happier to have her on board!

Gong

Senior Surf Coach

Gong has been with Xanadu pretty much from the start. He’s the head of our surf coach family – well respected, patient and committed. A Kuta native, he knows all the best spots in the area and is happy to share his surf break secrets. After hours, he’s a family man who loves spending time with his wife and two kids.

Our Locations

Both Xanadu Surf & Yoga hotels are located in Kuta – a quaint laid-back town in the south of Lombok sourrounded by many great surf spots perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers, including longboarders.
