Advanced Longboard Training Week – Longboard Retreat in Lombok
Advanced Longboard Coaching for Intermediate & Advanced Surfers
Refine your style. Improve your technique. Surf with more intention.
Xanadu’s Advanced Longboard Training Week is a specialised 7-night longboard retreat in Lombok, Indonesia, designed for intermediate and advanced surfers looking to take their longboarding to the next level.
With a focus on traditional longboarding techniques, including cross-stepping, noseriding, trimming, positioning and wave reading, this immersive coaching programme helps you develop greater control, flow and confidence on your longboard.
Through daily coached surf sessions, personalised feedback, video analysis, surf theory and land-based drills, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of your surfing and the tools to continue progressing long after the retreat.
Hosted at Xanadu Village in Kuta, Lombok, each training week brings together a small group of up to 11 like-minded longboarders for an intensive yet supportive surfing experience.

Who Is This Longboard Retreat For?
Our Advanced Longboard Training Week is designed for intermediate and advanced surfers who want to refine their longboarding technique, develop a more fluid style and progress towards more technical manoeuvres.
This programme is suitable for surfers who:
- Can confidently paddle into and catch unbroken green waves independently.
- Are comfortable navigating the lineup and surfing different wave conditions.
- Have experience riding a longboard and want to develop more advanced skills.
- Want to improve their cross-stepping, noseriding, trimming, positioning and overall wave selection.
- Are looking for structured coaching rather than simply being guided to surf spots.
Is this retreat suitable for beginners?
No. This is not a beginner surf camp. Participants should already be comfortable catching and riding unbroken waves independently.
If you’re still developing your surfing foundations or transitioning from a soft-top to a hard-top longboard, our regular Surf & Yoga programmes may be a better starting point.
Do I need to know how to cross-step or noseride already?
Not necessarily. The programme is designed to help you develop and refine these skills. Your coaching will be adapted to your current ability, technique and individual progression goals.
What Will You Learn During Your Longboard Coaching Week?
No two surfers are at exactly the same stage of their longboarding journey. That’s why our Advanced Longboard Training Week combines structured coaching with a personalised approach, adapting the focus to your current ability, technique and individual progression goals.
With small coaching groups, our instructors can identify the areas that will make the biggest difference to your surfing and help you work on them through in-water coaching, video analysis and practical drills.
While your individual focus may vary, the programme covers four key areas of longboard progression:
Footwork & Cross-Stepping
Develop better balance, foot placement and timing to move confidently along your board. Work towards smoother, more controlled transitions that feel natural rather than forced.
Noseriding
Learn to recognise the right sections, set up your board and refine your positioning and timing to spend more time on the nose with greater control.
Trimming & Flow
Improve your ability to generate and maintain speed, find efficient lines and connect manoeuvres for smoother, more fluid surfing.
Wave Reading & Positioning
Develop a deeper understanding of wave behaviour, improve your wave selection and learn to position yourself to make the most of each section.
The goal isn’t to tick off a list of manoeuvres in one week. It’s to understand your surfing better, build solid technical foundations and leave with the tools and confidence to keep progressing long after the retreat.

Intensive Longboard Coaching
This week is an all-longboarding affair. And anyone riding boards sub 7-foot need not apply. We’re here for the peeps who know that longboarders have more fun. And we’re making sure that once the week is done and dusted, you come out the other side a smoother, more poised, more self-assured logger.

Video analysis, drills, theory
It might sound intense, but it’s really not. It’s just our way of fitting months of learning into one special week. The video sessions, for example, help you refine your silky style by seeing your surfing from another perspective. As for the drills, they build muscle memory on land so that cross-stepping and noseriding on a wave become second nature.
Thoughtfully prepared menu
We’re foodies at heart, which means we take the time to prepare thoughtful meals that both fuel and invigorate you for the day ahead. Seasonal produce, freshly picked fruit and sourdough loafs baked in-house. Everything is beautifully presented, healthy and clean. And we can easily cater to a variety of different diets (gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan etc.). Big yum vibes. Breakfast, lunch, welcome and farewell dinner included.
Restorative Yoga
Yoga and surfing go together like peanut butter and our sourdough bread. And our resident yogi Bryan will carefully tailor his yoga practices to suit your needs. Bringing awareness both on and off the mat is his main goal. But the soothing of any post-surf sore spots and a heightened sense of wellbeing can also be expected.
Drone videos
You’ll not only leave Lombok with new longboard skills but also with drone video footage to brag about all those great waves you had and cross-steps caught on camera. The package includes all the drone videos we shoot throughout the week.
