It’s probably one of the most commonly asked questions, so we thought we’d dedicate an entire blog post to just that – travelling from Bali to Lombok.
How easy is it to get to Lombok from Bali?
Very easy! There are multiple ways of travelling from Bali to Lombok: by plane, by fast ferry (sometimes called a fast boat), and by slow ferry.
Travelling by plane from Bali to Lombok
A plane from Bali to Lombok is the fastest and most hassle-free option you can choose to get to Lombok (LOP) from Bali (DPS – Denpasar Airport). The flight takes only 25 minutes, and Kuta, where Xanadu is located, is only a 25-minute drive from the airport.
There are currently two airlines offering flights from Bali to Lombok – Wings Air and TransNusa. The easiest way to book domestic flights is via Traveloka.com (it’s the Indonesian equivalent of Booking.com).
Tip: TransNusa includes 20kg of luggage, and travelling with boards on TransNusa is much cheaper than on Wings. TransNusa charges around IDR 200,000 per board bag, while Wings Air charges around IDR 1,000,000 per board.
Travelling by fast ferry (fast boat) from Bali to Lombok
A fast ferry (aka fast boat) is another option for travelling between Bali and Lombok. Most fast boats leave from Padang Bai harbour, which is around a 1.5-hour drive from Denpasar Airport (sometimes more, depending on traffic). Some boats also operate from Sanur.
It takes around 3–3.5 hours to get to Lombok by fast boat (depending on sea conditions). Once in Lombok, it takes around 2.5 hours to get to Kuta from the fast ferry harbour (Bangsal or Senggigi). It’s a much longer journey than flying.
We recommend travelling with reliable boat operators such as Eka Jaya, Ostina, Blue Water Express, or Semaya One.
If you need to arrange a pick-up from the harbour, you can add it to your Xanadu Surf & Yoga package.
Travelling by slow ferry (public ferry) from Bali to Lombok
As the name implies, this is the slowest way of getting to Lombok from Bali. The public ferry leaves from Padang Bai more or less every hour (or when full), 24/7.
It takes between 4 and 6 hours to get from Bali to Lombok, and the ferry arrives in Lembar harbour, located around a 1.5-hour drive from Kuta.
How to get to Xanadu Surf & Yoga from Lombok International Airport?
You have two options:
- The easiest: Book a pick-up directly with Xanadu. Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport to take you straight to our tropical oasis. No cash needed – the transport charge will be added to your final bill.
- Use one of the taxis/private drivers waiting outside the airport. For this option, make sure you have cash, as card payments are usually not accepted. You may also want to have Google Maps open on your phone in case the driver gets lost.
